James Duckett: Florida Death Row
Missing toddler is grandson of inmate
LEESBURG - (AP) -- Authorities are questioning relatives, neighbors and local sex offenders in an effort to find a toddler who disappeared from his bedroom last weekend.
Trenton Duckett, 2, was last seen in his room at 7 p.m. Sunday. His parents first noticed he was missing around 9 p.m. Leesburg police said a screen on a window in the boy's room was cut. They believe the boy is in danger and are looking at all possibilities.
''We have no real updates,'' Leesburg police Capt. Steve Rockefeller said Thursday.
''It's still under investigation,'' he added.
The toddler is the grandson of Florida Death Row inmate James Duckett, convicted in 1988 of raping and drowning an 11-year-old girl.
''Jimmy's got to be standing on his head,'' said Don Jordan, James Duckett's older brother. ``We're trying to give Jimmy something to hang on to. The chaplain called and asked us to call as soon as we know something, but we don't know anything.''
Trenton Duckett was last seen wearing a striped shirt and denim shorts.
Leesburg police, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the FBI are working on the case. Volunteers also are circulating fliers with Trenton's picture.
