St. Petersburg attorney Michael Schwartzberg dies

Schwartzberg was in an accident Wednesday night.

Prominent St. Petersburg defense attorney Michael Schwartzberg has died of a massive heart attack.

St. Petersburg police said Schwartzberg was driving his car when he had the attack about 11 p.m. Wednesday night. He lost control of the car and slammed into a pole on Eighth Avenue North near his home.

When paramedics arrived, they found Schwartzberg in full cardiac arrest and couldn't revive him.

Schwartzberg recently had gastric bypass surgery and lost 175 pounds. He was the president of the St. Pete Little Theater and was returning from a rehearsal there when the accident occurred.
