Lawyer: Women's Whereabouts Not Known To Inmate

(AP) LOS ANGELES The attorney for the death row inmate whose decades-old pictures of about 50 women touched off a nationwide search by Los Angeles sheriff's investigators this week says he has no idea what happened to them.

Detectives now believe at least 28 of the women are alive and three are dead.

William Bradford's attorney says her client told her he has nothing to do with the possible death or disappearance of any of the women and he dismissed investigators' efforts to implicate him as "a waste of taxpayer money."

Investigators went public with the photos Tuesday -- about a month after a cold-case detective unearthed the pictures. They fear some of the women in the pictures may have been rape or murder victims in the 1970's and 1980's.
